In Asia, this is a domesticated animal that falls outside the Washington species protection convention (CITES). The water buffalo plays an indispensable role in agricultural life across various regions, serving as a four-legged tractor for ploughing and harrowing, assisting in carrying water and threshing grain, and pulling carts. It holds particular significance for the inhabitants of the rice-growing areas in Asia. Beyond their muscle power, these animals provide milk, leather, and their valuable horn as by-products. Given the water buffalo's esteemed status and its crucial role for the people in these regions, it is inherent that the buffalo are not harmed for their horn in the crafting process.
